The most common reason for emails not making it to your Inbox is a spam filter blocking it. Did you know that spam filters don't just operate in your client program (Outlook, Eudora etc). Most servers use several methods to block unwanted messages too and it's likely you have no control over them. These include:
Spam Assasin (intelligent protection)
DNS Blacklist Databases
End user reported lists (such as spamcop)
Box trapper
ISP Generic Methods
This is a tiny fraction of the filters that can block access to your inbox before you even see it. Unfortunately the number of false positives is on the rise with many larger email suppliers such as AOL, cox, comcast, hotmail, gmail and Yahoo blocking servers that send a lot of mail only because of the volume rather than the content.
So what does this mean?
It means if you are using one of these accounts you will definetly have a problem at some time. You might think paying for an account such as the annual deal with Yahoo will solve this issue. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Do not rely on any email other than those that guarantee you have full control over the spam filters running on the server. Typically most small ISPs and Hosts provide this service as their mail servers are not under the same kind of pressure.
Some free email services do not use a big brother approach and their spam filters do not block legitimate messages and still provide you with control over spam filtering. mail.com is a good example.
What do I do if I am not receiving a verification or password reminder?
The server is sending them. Something is blocking them, if you are using a large email service provider such as AOL, cox, comcast, hotmail, gmail or Yahoo then they will not be forwarding them to you. This maybe temporary or a permanenet problem. You can wait. If nothing arrives then it is likely they will never pass the message on and you will need to open a new mail account with a different provider.

. Avoid the main players as they are the cause rather than a solution.
